Untitled (Inflated Space) by Vincent Como

Untitled (Inflated Space)

Vincent Como

The exhibition which I undertook at the

Southside Gallery was an installation

where I constructed two large cubes

out of plastic sheeting to conform to

the dimensions of the basement, and

inflated them within the space.  The

understanding was that the work

would lose air throughout the course

of the show and the artwork would be

in a constant state of change.

I was interested in the idea that a

person could have an experience

of a particular space without being

able to enter into that space.  The

piece became about the viewer’s

engagement-by-non-engagement

of the work.  Then, coupled with the

passing physical presence of the work,

it would occupy the space of memory.
